We Shall Rise Again

I am an amateur painter. I painted this picture on day four of the Russian onslaught into Ukraine, when disbelief, pessimism and sadness seemed to be the general reaction and before any western response began.

The picture intends to show the wilting and blood soaked iconic Sunflower  as it reflected the Russian brutality, the crosses were added later in recognition of the Ukrainian toll both civilian and military. But I hope the blossoming Sunflower at the top reflects the belief and certainty in the future for Ukraine and its people, that this flower represents the strength of its people and is an emblem for the future not just the past.
