ABOUT THE ARTIST: Damien Veal graduated from the ANU School of Art (Canberra, ACT) Printmaking Department in 1998 with first class honours.

In 2003 Damien was commissioned by ArtsACT to create a permanent glass installation for a government building in central Canberra. More recently he has been working on smaller-scale commissions for both corporate and private use.

In 2013 Damien was commissioned by Defence Housing Australia (DHA) to create a series of architectural drawings for corporate use and in 2014 he completed more images for use in their 2013-2014 Annual Report. In 2017 Damien worked collaboratively with DHA to create a children’s colouring book Rex D. Dog’s Hide-and-Seek Adventure.

In 2014 Damien worked collaboratively with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and University of Canberra to illustrate two educational children's books for the Papua New Guinea market: Maria's Family Goes To Market and Maria's Family Saves Their Kina. The books were published late in the year and officially launched by then Deputy Prime Minister Julie Bishop in December 2014. Since then he has illustrated two more books, Maria’s Family Raises Chickens (2016) and Maria’s Family Team (2018) and worked on education packs and posters for use in schools in Papua New Guinea and other pacific nations.

In 2018 Damien collaborated with a scientist to create a t-shirt design for Shirty Science Season 3. The graphic, which focused on important Parkinson's Disease research, was voted the public choice winner for the season.

Though trained in Printmaking, Damien has worked extensively across a range of mediums: drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.
