Frances Fox is a fifth-generation weaver who grew up attending Arrowmont when it was the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School. At 13, she worked her first job in the Arrowmont kitchen for the summer workshops. From 1983-85 she apprenticed to the master weaver at Arrowmont for their cottage weaving industry, reclaiming the lost skills of both her grandmothers.
Fox has taught weaving workshops as an instructor, and offers weekly talks on the history of Arrowmont during National Workshop sessions. She has a studio in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Her work is a continuous exploration of color and texture with a focus on the mountains and nature in my wall hangings and wearables.
