Simone Berry - Original Stoneware 'Gnarled Prickly Vessel'
About this item
Gnarled Vessel | Simone Berry
Stoneware with white glaze | Suitable to hold water
20 × 25 × 20.5 cm
‘Gnarled Vessel’ by Simone Berry is a striking, hand-formed ceramic work inspired by the textured, weathered trunks of native Banksia.
Sculptural yet functional, the vessel features an intricate, tactile surface that wraps organically around the form, contrasted by a soft white glaze that highlights every ridge and contour.
Uniquely designed as an inverse vessel, the piece can be displayed and used in two orientations — one side suited to long stems, the other offering a broader opening for shorter arrangements. This duality transforms the work from a vessel into a dynamic sculptural object, inviting interaction and reinterpretation.
Created on Kuring-gai land on Sydney’s north shore, Berry’s practice is grounded in organic form, materiality and connection to place. Each piece is entirely one-of-a-kind, shaped by hand and guided by intuition.
Simone donates this work in support of Love Your Sister — a cause deeply personal to her following her own cancer journey and recovery. This piece carries not only artistic integrity, but a story of resilience, hope and giving.
A beautifully resolved contemporary ceramic work that sits equally as a functional object or sculptural centrepiece.
