Game Rangers International Elephant Orphanage Release Facility Visit (2 nights for two people)

Empowering Rangers and Local Communities to Conserve Nature.
Game Rangers International (GRI) is a non-profit organisation established in Zambia in 2008. GRI works in close partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to empower Rangers and Local Communities to conserve nature. We embrace a holistic approach to conservation, and empower Rangers across three core thematic areas:  Resource Protection, Community Outreach, and Wildlife Rescue.

GRI Wildlife Rescue Department works with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Veterinary Unit to support welfare provisions for Zambia’s wildlife. Our efforts began in 2007 with the establishment of GRI’s Elephant Orphanage Project, and has grown to support a number of additional wildlife species over the years. The Elephant Orphanage remains GRI’s primary project with an Elephant Nursery in Lusaka and a Release Facility in Kafue National Park.  Here, the orphans are gradually reintegrated back into the wild.

GRI has teamed up with Musungwa Safari Lodge in Itezhi Tezhi and is ofering a unique behind the scenes look at the work being done in Kafue National Park releasing orphaned elephants back into the wild.  

The package consists of two nights (inclusive of all meals in Musungwa Lodge and the opportunity to self drive to the release facility and take part in elephant viewing, with meet the researchers and learn about elephant behaviour and post-release monitoring of released elephants.  The visit period starts at 11:30 am and continues until 13:00hrs.  The game viewing in the area around the release facility and the lake is fantastic.  

Please note:  All experiences are non-contact and distance elephant viewing only and to be arranged directly with the GRI team at a time that is mutually convenient. Project Activities will take priority and may restrict availability for these experiences at certain times of the year.

Package includes: 

2 nights accommodation and meals at Musungwa Lodge on the shores of Lake Itezhi Tezhi.  Day visit to the Elephant release facility as described above.  Excludes: drinks, National Park entry fees and any transfers.
