#23 Springsteen Snaffle

This vintage Springsteen-style snaffle is a classic example of the training bits widely used on jumping and fox-hunting horses through the mid-20th century. Many hunters and jumpers “went around” in this style of snaffle, and Al has used this one specifically to soften the jaw and mouth while keeping the communication light. Although this bit does not carry a maker’s mark, it follows the traditional Springsteen pattern: a single-jointed mouthpiece paired with distinctive spoon-shaped cheeks. The inner ring attaches the headstall, while the outer ring carries the reins, creating an elongated action that wraps comfortably around the corners of the mouth.
