BASP (Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project) was established in 2001 and aims to:
- Provide hospitality and practical support for people seeking asylum
- Actively network with like-minded individuals and groups who are working for justice for asylum seekers.
- Promote advocacy for the rights of people seeking asylum.
- Engage in education about asylum seeker issues.
BASP has been assisting an increasing number of people during Covid times.
The support packages provided by the Federal Government Disaster payment and State Government Extreme Hardship program will cease in the next 2 to 3 months increasing the demand on services like BASP.
St Mary of the Cross, Mordialloc and Aspendale parishioners and our "Justice Action Group" (JAG) have been strong supporters of BASP for many years.
