Sally Hickman grew up amid the pines and crystal-clear waters of Michigan. She discovered the South Carolina Lowcountry in the mid-1970’s and now divides her time between the two states. Her early experience creating still lives in charcoal and pastels evolved into landscapes in oil following mentorship by two established artists. Today, she paints landscapes informed by Michigan winters. And while she’s also drawn to South Carolina’s sleepy marshes, she says her “heart and soul invariably return to those moody Northern horizons, influenced by memories of pastoral farmlands and a wealth of water that is ingrained in my being.” She is a member of Society of Bluffton Artists, Hilton Head Art League, and Lenawee Council for the Arts.
