About this item
"Pink Chair" by Rachel Milne
33cm x 40cm
RRP $2,500
‘Pink Chair’ and was painted in December 2020. I wouldn’t send back a cold coffee but I often just ask people if I can paint in their houses and to my eternal surprise they often agree. This was a modern build but built in the Georgian style and at the time I was painting Covid was raging in the UK where I am originally from and I was homesick. This place reminded me so much of working as a decorator in Bath – the Georgian architecture and antiques and this beautiful replica chair in the bedroom.
About the Artist
Focusing on the beauty in the everyday, Milne produces intimate paintings and portraits set in her home and studio, as well as plein air landscapes of iconic places in Newcastle laden with social history.
Applying the genre of Intimism to the modern world around her, Milne’s observational paintings depict ordinary objects like a child’s pram, a chair from her studio or food she has prepared.
Milne was awarded winner of the Singleton Portraiture Prize in 2013, has been a finalist in the Kilgour Prize at Newcastle Art Gallery in 2014, 2016 and 2018, as well as the prestigious Wynne Prize in 2017 and 2018 at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Milne has been represented by the King Street Gallery on William in Sydney since 2015 and has an upcoming solo show in December of this year.
