GON Benefit Auction
Our mission behind these original paintings is to preserve our rich outdoor heritage and expand our GON community through a shared reverence for nature and God's handiwork. Each piece is a tribute to the traditions we hold dear, with proceeds supporting efforts to ensure our love for the land and its stories are passed down for generations to come. From our first photo contest, we chose two photos to inspire commissioned paintings that are available for auction. The second Grand Prize winner of the GON photography contest was Justin Green. He submitted "Colors of Spring," a beautiful up-close detail photo of a gobbler’s feathers. Justin says, “I’ve been an outdoorsman my entire life. I remember my dad waking us up asking, ‘Are you still going hunting with me?’ My dad knew good and well that we’d never say no. Looking back, I can honestly say that I get just as much joy, if not more, when someone else is able to harvest an animal that they are after. Lita Gatlin, a native of Georgia now living in Charlotte, North Carolina, began drawing in pencil and ink at an early age and transitioned into the oil medium after college. Lita partnered with GON on this commissioned piece. "My interest in the outdoors started early as a daughter of someone who appreciated and respected all things of nature," said Lita. "No matter where we went, my dad was always pointing out animal tracks, identifying fowl in flight, and teaching me to respect nature. He ultimately became a manager at the Ocmulgee WMA which taught me so much about the importance of land and game management." “The beauty and colors of the natural world around us provide the most inspiration for my painting,” says Lita. “I am always amazed at the colors in nature and how they constantly change with daylight and atmosphere.”
