That’s a quote from an adult. And it was the inspiration for this book. 

Mark is a freelance illustrator turned hereditary cancer advocate. In his advocacy, he found that, sadly, a lot of adults really don’t know much about basic genomic science. So, he created a fun little introduction to genomic science for readers six and up featuring Mendel G. Cat so that hopefully when they grow up, they won’t be totally clueless. About the Creator: Mark is an internationally published artist and illustrator. He has literally created thousands of works of art for books, magazines, greeting cards, and more during his decades-long full-time freelance career. But hereditary cancer changed everything. In October 2017, his wife, soul mate and muse, Donna, was diagnosed with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer caused by a BRCA2 mutation. After becoming his wife’s cancer caregiver and then losing her to the evil disease in 2021, his life was turned upside down. Tragically, her cancer was preventable. For years, some of his wife's relatives were acutely aware that there was a pathogenic BRCA2 mutation in the family but didn’t share that info until after her diagnosis. So now he is a hereditary cancer awareness and prevention advocate because of what happened to his wife and because their child inherited the same BRCA2 mutation.
