Made by the Cambridge Instrument Company. "An accurate geometrically designed instrument for the measurement of objects or scales in rectangular co-ordinates." A large, heavy instrument made of metal. Has a heavy black metal base and structure, on which are mounted cylindrical stainless steel rails. The lower, transverse pair of rails holds a carriage mounting glass plates in which the object to be measured is carried on or between. The upper, longitudinal pair of rails hold a carriage with a viewing microscope.
