From 1842-44, the British William Bollaert traveled in Texas. During his time, he produced 6 diaries and 2 journals of who and what he saw. The manuscript diaries changed hands a number of times and it wasn't until 1956 that they were published for the first time for the public to enjoy. Witty, candid and perceptive, the Englishman gives us a unique look at the middle years of the Republic of Texas. Basic Texas Books called it "the most entertaining book on the Republic of Texas."Illustrated with some sketches from Bollaert's diaries.

Hardcover, clothbound, with illustrated dust jacket. Cloth shows some wear aat spine ends. Dust jacket is chipped at spine ends and creased at edges. Jacket is protected in archival mylar jacket cover. Previous owner's nautical bookplate to front pastedown and embossed seal to title page. 423 pages.
