Condition report:

Small hardcover with red covers and gilt embellishments. Near fine condition showing little visible wear. Previous owner's embossed Masonic seal to title page. Top edge gilt. 364 pages. Sound binding.

Why It Matters:

First printed privately in 1921, it was followed by an edition in 1925 edited by M.M. Quaife. This 1943 edition is unique in that Quaife provided additional footnotes, then the revised text "received the inspection and final approval" of Gillett. Texas-born, lawman and Texas Ranger Sergeant James B. Gillett (1856-1937) was honored by the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. The six years covered were the heroic age of the Ranger force, coinciding with the Frontier Battalion, composed of six companies of Texas Rangers with seventy-five men each to quiet the frontier.
