AUTHOR: Mrs. George Plunkett Red.

TITLE: The Medicine Man in Texas

PUBLICATION DATA: 1930. Standard Printing; Houston. First edition.

The earliest Texans....the heroes of San Jacinto...folks with cholera...Sam Houston himself and almost every Texan born in modern(ish) times....all have something in common - they all needed medical care. This early history of docs and surgeons in Texas gives us that early history, then walks us through the doctors practicing in 46 Texas counties up through the 1920s. The book was written by the wife of Dr. S. C. Red. Dr. Red was the son of Texas pioneer physician George Clark Red. Dr. Samuel Clark Red was the county physician of Harris County, one of the organizers of the Harris County Medical Society, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and president of the Texas Medical Association. His connections gave his wife ample fodder for her book on the profession.
