About the artist:

Yongping Ren is an artist and arts worker based in Melbourne, Australia, whose practice explores how materials record gestures, thoughts, and desires over time. Through tensions between public/private and permanent/fragile, his work collapses distinctions between sacred and profane, embracing marginalized forms of spatial intimacy, failure, and instability. Born in 1990 in Xiaoyi, China, Ren holds a BFA from VCA, University of Melbourne, and an MFA from RMIT University. His work has been featured in exhibitions including the Huaniao Island International Art Festival, performances at Powerhouse Museum Sydney, and group shows at Testing Grounds, Alta Forma, Kyneton Ridge Artspace, and RMIT's IDAHOBIT celebrations. In 2024, he held his first solo exhibition, Rúyì, at MAILBOX ARI, and in 2025 was selected for the ARIXCHANGE residency program between Sawtooth ARI and Blindside ARI. He previously worked as Gallery Assistant at Bus Projects and currently co-directs Run Artist Run in Docklands and artistic director at Blindside ARI. www.yongpingren.info
