Liz Evans is an award-winning author, journalist, public speaker, editor and researcher from the UK, currently based in lutruwita/Tasmania. She spent the 1990s as a music journalist in London when she published two books on women and rock culture, and has written for The Guardian, Elle UK, London Standard, New Statesman, Dumbo Feather, Island Literary Journal, TasWeekend, Womankind, The Age, Lunch Lady, and numerous academic journals. 

A qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist, she holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Tasmania, where she’s taught creative and professional writing units. Her research focused on the psychology of the antiheroine and female anger in contemporary thrillers. 

An alumni of Varuna and the Katherine Susan Prichard Centre, Liz’s debut psychological suspense novel, Catherine Wheel, was published in 2024 (Ultimo Press). 

She is currently working on her second novel for Ultimo Press, and regularly contributes book reviews and essays for The Conversation. Later this year, she will be running workshops on writing effective psychological fiction for authors in Tasmania. 

Catherine Wheel explores the impact of coercive control on two seemingly different women, and considers the ways in which toxic masculinity affects how women see themselves and each other.
