#24 Tyler Drosdeck: "Marbles"
About this item
Tyler Drosdeck (b. 1981) is an American artist who lives and works in New York.
The work Marbles by Drosdeck was a part of a two-person exhibition with Brendan Harman at Secon Gallery. The exhibition was the last exhibition Second Gallery ever held, and though each artist exhibited separate objects and pieces, the two artists collaborated on the show’s conceptualization and decided to each call their respective installations Same old.
The work Marbles was a part of this installation, and Drosdeck sought to draw an explicit link between the art object and the inner workings of capital, the packaging of commodities, and their implied promise (yet always broken) of a better tomorrow. Drosdeck exhibited paintings of woods of credit cards enlarged to greater than life size. Either leaned against the wall or leaned against each other in a kind of “house of cards”, these works speak the extent to which artistic production and art history has been completely co-opted by the market.
The work was purchased at Second Gallery in New York in 2004.
