Inspired by the local social and political subculture, Florian Süssmayr has for many years explored the leftist post-punk musical and sub-culture scene. Formerly involved in film as a lighting specialist and cameraman before dedicating himself solely to painting in the late 1990s, his work is related to photo-realism and reflects social topics such as marginalization and social disobedience. Characterized by a monochromatic palette, dramatic chiaroscuro, and gloomy ambiance, Süssmayr’s paintings capture the brooding energy of a suppressed youth. His work has been widely exhibited internationally, including a solo exhibition at Munich’s Haus Der Kunst, and is featured in many important private collections around the world.
