SUSAN HIPGRAVE – Aloe vera
About this item
SUSAN HIPGRAVE
Aloe vera
black underglaze on porcelain
28 cm diameter
Susan Hipgrave’s sculptural and painterly process references 19th century ornithological and botanical illustrative texts. Painting on what she calls a ‘circular canvas’, Hipgrave executes, through fine fluid black linear work, a resurrection of the intricacies of forgotten scientific illustration. Her detailed and delicate paintings link the past to the present in her attempt to understand the natural in an increasingly unnatural world.
Susan Hipgrave has been exhibiting her exquisite paintings in Australia, Hong Kong, Scotland and France and has been included in group exhibitions in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh and at the prestigious Fondation d’entreprise Bernardaud in Limoges, France. Hipgrave’s work is held in significant private and corporate collections both in Australia and Internationally.
Susan Hipgrave has chosen to donate 100% of the proceeds from this work to the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities.
Many First Nations peoples have been affected by the tragic bushfires with losses of homes/severe damage to property and important parts of the landscape. Many of these communities have now been forced to evacuate the regions of their homes to seek temporary/ongoing living arrangements in other parts of Victoria and NSW. This fundraiser was initiated by Yorta Yorta man and community rights advocate Neil Morris, at the request of and in direct consultation with the fire affected First Nations communities across Eastern parts of Australia including Gippsland and the South Coast of NSW. This fundraiser will offer culturally sensitive, direct support to some of those communities.
