This photo is part of my ongoing long term project “White Gold” examining the intersection between my family’s history and the official narrative of the Egyptian cotton industry. Taken inside one of the four power plant stations on the premises of the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company, which supply electricity to the surrounding textile factories, the image portrays the company’s former General Director standing within the industrial infrastructure that once powered the complex’s vast production network.
