About this item

Inspired by Post-Impressionist experiments with capturing the transient phenomenons of nature, Ruwan Prasanna (b. 1980, Colombo. Live and works in Angoda) attempts to capture the ethereal and intangible. The artist places the atmosphere at the forefront, distancing himself from conventional landscape paintings. Characterized by a lyrical use of colour and rhythmic brushstrokes, Prasanna exploits scale in his work to convey the immense power and beauty of nature. Emotion and ephemerality are central to Prasanna's work. The artist’s focus on the fleeting moments with nature—offers a temporary escape from the rush of urban life and encourages us to find comfort in nature’s soothing presence.

Prasanna graduated from Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts - Institute for Sri Lankan Art, Kotte, Athurugiriya (2013).

Prasanna exhibited internationally at India Art Fair, New Delhi (2025) and various solo and group shows in Sri Lanka at Paradise Road Galleries, Colombo (2019 and 2015), National Art Gallery, Colombo (2008), Harold Pieris Gallery, Colombo (2007) and the George Keyt Foundation, Colombo (2005). Prasanna’s work belongs to notable local and international private collections including the Galle Face Hotel, Paradise Road and Nyne Hotels.
