About this item

Relocating from Brisbane to Byron Bay six years ago, Rod Evans has found himself right at home in the paradise of Northern NSW. Here he has applied (and continues to hone) his skills in photography and digital media by getting out into the hills and letting his creativity run wild. With specialties including landscape, time-lapse, astrophotography and 360-degree imagery, Rod has most recently fallen headfirst down the rabbit-hole of 'light painting', a world of cosmic wizardry that has allowed him to step out from behind the camera and create oceans of colour in front of the lens. As a unique artist, Rod's continuing mission is to capture the awe and wonder of this visually vibrant world.

I created this image a few years ago at my house at Tregeagle. The shrooms were created using a bicycle wheel with blue and green LED's attached to the rim. I had my Canon DSLR on a tripod on the ground and captured a long exposure of me spinning the bike wheel around. This technique is known as 'light painting'. This is a composite of several images, I chose a few of the best mushrooms and overlaid them on a Milky Way shot I captured in my front yard.
