About this item

Malin Nyholm Svensk is a mixed media artist from Sweden. The move between countries greatly inspired Svensk’s work. Svensk's practice consists of acrylic painting, sculpture, drawing, printing, and digital illustrations. The work aims to capture a significant memory, paying close attention to the remembrance of a place. Nature, and the animals associated with the place become a memory in itself when printed onto paper.

Artist proof copperplate etching print, unique edition, one of a kind. Black ink on white 300gsm Stonehenge paper. A section of a collage centred on a specific piece, preserving intimate details. The work focuses on the mythology of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun, and the Victorian era’s obsession with butterflies. It is a detailed piece exploring the familiarity of the motifs while presenting the gothic feel of Victorian illustrations. Taken from the narrative of the metamorphosis of the butterfly and the symbolic destructiveness of fire.
