About this item

Isabelle Smith was born in the quiet coastal town of Forster NSW and has been a working with oil painting since 2015. Her work is inspired by nature and its beauty, exploring a personal relationship between memory and place. She is currently completing a bachelor in art and design at southern cross university.

Canowindra is a small country town situated in the inner west, known for its close-knit community. With my Grandparents farming its land for most of their lives, memories of the surrounding canola fields and river plains have become a significant personal aspect embedded in this work. Emitting a nurture that runs through its generations, this small town is a hidden gem.

This two piece work explores the relationship between the significance of this place and my memories and experiences with it. Through the depiction of symbolic colours and metaphors within the natural landscape, these works explore a place of great personal significance.
