Fabian Pertzel "Within Reason of A Glass Heart"

Fabian Pertzel is a Lismore based artists who has recently completed a Bachelor of Art and Design at Southern Cross University. He uses digital media and projections to create works that ignite questions about our interpersonal relationships with technology; how personalised computers and smart devices have become an extension of our identities and how we communicate with one another through the miasmic buzz of the internet. Through a software-based process which uses design techniques, digital animation, and CGI Sculpture, Fabian Integrates this technology into dynamic installations that occupy and transform space. His work can be seen as an attempt to bridge the gap of an intangible digital space and the physical space in which our bodies exist.

This print is one in a series of works titled the "Sublime Intervention" series. Each piece in this series use high fidelity Images of landscapes which capture the sublime beauty of planet earth. However, each phenomenal scene is viewed through different human organs made from glass, refracting and distorting the landscape, intervening with its inherent beauty. Fundamentally, these works question how experiencing sublime natural landscapes through the filter of technology lacks authenticity, and if these types of Images lose their wonder through over-saturation, being reduced to stock image, desktop backgrounds that are detached from the interpersonal connection to a time and place. Each image attempts to readdress this problem, inviting the viewer to look closer, through their own human ego and reconsider how they relate to the beauty of the natural world.
