About this item

Amelia Hughes is currently studying a Bachelor of Art and Design at Southern Cross University, due to complete at the end of this year. Amelia was born in Sydney and has grown up in the Northern Rivers NSW region where she has been studying and practicing art since 2017.

"An archive of a happy place" is a diptych (2x A3 prints) exploring a personal experience and relationship with the Australian landscape, captured through analogue photography. "This area that I often visited was recently cleared; the film that captured that place has now become an archive of a place that I had developed a relationship with. I explore within my practice a relationship with place that is built on intimate observance, wonder and chance. Toying with chance and the sometimes unpredictable nature of analogue photography, I explore the possibility of faults and loss, whilst acknowledging that the anticipation of the developing process allows a time of reflection."
