Ukrainian Naval Infantry Corps (Marines)

The modern Ukrainian Naval Infantry Corps was officially formed in 1993, following Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union. The corps traces its roots back to the naval infantry units of the Black Sea Fleet of the former Imperial Russian Navy. The Ukrainian Marines are responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations, coastal defense, and securing key maritime and coastal installations. They are trained to operate independently or in coordination with other branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to capture and defend strategic coastal areas, ports, islands, and naval bases. The Ukrainian Naval Infantry Corps is known for its resilience, versatility, and crucial role in Ukraine’s defense strategy.
