About Ancient City Leopolis
The ancient city of Leopolis ("City of the Lion"), now known as Lviv, was officially founded in 1256 by King Daniel of Galicia in the Ruthenian principality of Halych-Volhynia. The city was named in honor of his son Lev, which translates to “Leo” in English, hence the Latin name Leopolis.
