About this item

Painting by Ukrainian artist Serhiy Savchenko — created during the artist’s residency in Virginia, USA (2005), Invasion deepens Savchenko’s “unreversed perspective”: the city’s axes and invisible construction lines push toward the viewer rather than receding, turning geometry into a sign of human presence. The composition reads like a charged city map—streets, blocks, and vectors pressing forward—so movement feels inevitable, as if time itself cannot be turned back. A key motif is the appearance of military parachutists “seizing” the city from above, inspired by accounts of American paratroopers during the Normandy landings in World War II. Oil and acrylic on canvas, 2005.
