Invasion, "Universal city"

Painting by Ukrainian artist Serhiy Savchenko — created during the artist’s residency in Virginia, USA (2005), Invasion deepens Savchenko’s “unreversed perspective”: the city’s axes and invisible construction lines push toward the viewer rather than receding, turning geometry into a sign of human presence. The composition reads like a charged city map—streets, blocks, and vectors pressing forward—so movement feels inevitable, as if time itself cannot be turned back. A key motif is the appearance of military parachutists “seizing” the city from above, inspired by accounts of American paratroopers during the Normandy landings in World War II.
