About this item

Mahala Burns, Acrylic paint, organic materials, on paper mache bauble, L 9.5cm, W 9.5cm, D 9.5cm.

Mahala Burns is a proud descendant of the Nunukul, Ngugi, and Goenpul peoples of Quandamooka. Inspired by Minjerribah, she honours the enduring connection of the Quandamooka peoples to their land - a relationship nurtured and lived in harmony with since time immemorial.

Mahala has facilitated a number of textile linoprinting workshops for Aboriginal Art Co and we sell her tea towels in our store.

Mahala’s work brings the beauty of the bush and salt/freshwater Country into everyday spaces, inviting others to experience the quiet whispers of memory that echo through her culture. This is reflected in pieces such as her bauble decorated with seashells from Country, embodying the stories and spirit of place. She creates with freedom and instinct, guided by a few simple principles that let her inner rebel play while giving her perfectionist room to rest. Mahala is also a part of the recent Magpie Goose x Quandamooka collection.
