Dean Bingkin Tyson is an artist of the Meerooni tribe of the Gurang Nation and the Ngugi tribe of the Quandamooka Nation, with ancestral ties to the Gungalu and Gunggari peoples. In 2024, he participated in Aboriginal Art Co’s Safe Space Residency, an eight-week program that culminated in his debut solo exhibition, EPISTEMICIDE + EPIPHANY = EXODUS. His practice is deeply rooted in ancestral memory, lived experience, and strong connections to Country.
Dean's paintings often incorporates hand splatters in his work - a technique extended to his bauble design, which also features emu feathers.
Since completing the residency, Tyson has been awarded the Queensland State Library Indigenous Languages Creative Arts Residency, further expanding his research and creative practice. His artwork My Island Home… is part of the Magpie Goose x Quandamooka collection, which will translate his work into textiles - stories woven into fabric and carried into everyday life.
