About this item
Aidan Rowlingson, foam shapes on paper mache bauble with ribbon , L 8.5cm, W 8.5cm, D 8.5cm.
Aidan Rowlingson is a multidisciplinary artist and producer based in Sydney. A proud Butchulla man from K'gari and the Wide Bay area, Aidan has a diverse creative background. After graduating from the University of Canberra with a Bachelor of Acting and Performance, he has worked in both classical and contemporary theatre, performed original poetry, and uses visual art to share stories from his perspective.
Aidan recently completed a residency with Aboriginal Art Co, where he created the BIG FACE exhibition—a growing collection of observations, stories, people, places, and culture. Through repetition and meditative processes, Aidan imagines narratives that reflect the complexities of contemporary life, often blending humour with sharp commentary.
This approach is reflected in his 'Budoo' bauble design, featuring a vibrant array of foam shapes and cheeky text, capturing his playful, irreverent, and thought-provoking artistic style.
Aidan’s visual arts practice spans sculpture, textiles, fashion and costume, and text-based art. He believes, “I only make something when I have something to say. The medium has to fit the message,” a philosophy that guides every aspect of his work.
