Wayne Gretzky - An Oiler Forever (#TEC002)
About this item
Terry Jones is a highly respected sports columnist and author who attended most major moments in Wayne Gretzky’s career. Terry Jones wrote a column on March 30, 1981 (eighteen years before Gretzky’s retirement) wondering, "How will we look back?" at the end of Wayne Gretzky’s career. When will Gretzky pass Gordie Howe's old NHL scoring records? How many times will he win the NHL scoring race, the Hart Trophy, and the Lady Byng? The end of the 1998-99 National Hockey League season was Wayne Gretzky's final year. Gretzky had eclipsed the previous Gordie Howe NHL records with 894 goals, 1,963 assists, and 2,857 points. He won the Stanley Cup four times, the NHL scoring race ten times, the Hart Trophy nine times, the Lady Byng five times and the Conn Smythe twice. At the time he wrote this book, Terry Jones dedicated it to Gretzky’s kids. It was the Edmonton years they always asked Wayne questions about. Terry hoped, when they looked through the book, they would understand why Wayne Gretzky would be "An Oiler Forever."
