About this item

Start of Book: “He is born in a two-room plank house in Tupelo, Mississippi. The house is raised off the ground on legs of concrete and brick, has a porch, three windows and a pointed roof. Small, narrow, redolent of poverty, it resists the heavy rains and the summer's dry heat, but otherwise doesn't amount to much. The floors are bare. There is no running water. . A few miles north-east, in the Princeville Cemetery, his twin brother is buried not forty-eight hours after he is born. Life is raw in Tupelo, Mississippi.” End of Book: “He will succeed. He will always succeed. He is now much too big for his image to fade; in retirement his legend will outlive him. A great natural artist, a monumental American figure, he now exists beyond mere talent or charisma. The old Elvis is dead. The new one lives on. Hallelujah.” Middle of Book: 147 pages in between.
