About this item

Libby Harward, Bitumen, Gravel, Builders twine L 10cm, W 10cm, D 10cm.

Libby Harward is a descendant of the Ngugi people of Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) in the Quandamooka area.

Libby creates art that breaks through the colonial overlay to reconnect with the cultural landscape that has always existed and will always endure. Her political practice spans various genres and continues the process of decolonisation. Libby describes her work as a dialogue with Country, a process of listening, calling out to, knowing, and understanding the land. With over twenty years in the arts, Libby began her career as a community, street, and graffiti artist.

She is also the director of Munimba-ja art gallery in Maleny, where she fosters a safe space for local Aboriginal artists to challenge the status quo and platform authentic First Nations storytelling and cultural expression. Through Munimba-ja, Libby seeks to empower artists and amplify Indigenous voices, ensuring that cultural narratives are heard and celebrated.
