The Art of Johnny Johnson
A limited-edition print collection of some of Johnny Johnson's finest nature photographs. They are all personally signed and numbered and printed on long lasting Cibachrome / Ilfochrome paper.
About the Photographer
Johnny's passion for wildlife and photography developed while growing up in the hill country of Austin, Texas. His love of animals led him to study wildlife management at Texas A&M University and then, in 1968, to take a seasonal ranger job at Denali National Park in Alaska. As a backcountry ranger and naturalist, he became acquainted with many of the world's finest photographers. Their collective inspirations and encouragement led in 1974 to his first published photo.
Since then, Johnny has worked on assignment for National Geographic and has published worldwide in magazines, calendars and books. Included among these are Natural History, Audubon, National Wildlife, Newsweek, Time and Reader's Digest. Personal publications include a yearly Alaska Wildlife Calendar and a full-line of Wild Alaska Notecards.
An avid outdoorsman, Johnny has climbed Mt. McKinley, skied across the Brooks Range, and build his own log cabin. Other adventures have included photographic expeditions to Africa and the Antarctic. His images are never taken in a zoo or game-farm. Capturing the wild essence of our vanishing natural world is the goal of this artist.
About Cibachrome / Ilfochrome Prints
Ilfochrome is a new trade name for the printing process formerly known as Cibachrome. And while the name has recently changed, the classic process is the same. An Ilfochrome Classic print has three distinct advantages over conventional photo reproduction.
- SHARPNESS - prints are made directly from original transparencies without using an internegative. This first generation direct printing insures that there is no loss of sharpness.
- RICHER COLOR - the pure, azo-metallic dyes are incorporated in the paper during manufacturing instead of being formed during processing as with all other photographic processes. For this reason, the colors in an Ilfochrome Classic print are richer and more accurate than with any other direct printing method.
- LONGER LASTING - because the dyes are pure azo--metallic and not organic (as with other processes), Ilfochrome Classic prints have a life expectancy that far exceeds the life of any other conventional process. They are the preferred choice of most museums and collectors of color photography.
