Susiman Nirmalavasan is a visual artist from Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Nirmalavasan works with various mediums, including oil, clay, and dye methods on cloth and canvas. To compensate for a paucity of materials, the artist also employs clay, gravel, sack coal, ash, and tea dye in his works.The artist explores topics around the impacts of the civil war using heavy symbolism in his choice of subjects. Nirmalavasan’s work also explores the subject of intersectional feminism, where he portrays mothers as pillars of strength amidst the war while also navigating through a patriarchal society.
