About the Artist
Born in 1972 into an artistic Swiss family, Michèle Heibel spent most of her childhood years in the picturesque Bernese countryside. In 1983 after extensive travels, her family made the decision to settle in Australia permanently. Michèle's interest in art never wavered and upon completing her schooling she went on to attain a Diploma of Graphic Design at North Sydney's Billy Blue College. She found work in Kerry Packer's publishing empire and worked as a designer and art director on magazines for the following two decades. In 2009, after the birth of her son, Michèle felt a deep need to return to the rural lifestyle she had known as a child and made the move to the Hunter Valley. She credits this environment with her finding her way back to creating artworks by hand. Present day Michèle's unique miniatures created using only a needle, form part of private and public collections. She has been a finalist in major National Drawing prizes such as the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize and the Marie Ellis OAM Drawing Prize and won numerous awards.

'Words can be overwhelming and I am grateful to be able to convey my feelings in a quiet, visual way. The miniature space is such a beautiful, powerful thing - a small window into a private space.'
