About this item
An aerial perspective of Country. The colours depict seasonal changes i.e. Blue - indicates rainfall and waterholes on Country, Green and Yellow - represents that plants, wildflowers and food in the dry dessert landscape. The large U shape symbols (in a circle) represent the women and their gathering tools, (coolamons and digging sticks), sharing knowledge. Handprints represent our ancestors, family and past loved ones watching over us. The smaller circles with lines coming off them indicate stopping points and walking trails for gathering of food and water.
Footprints of the Kangaroo on country, remind us of the valuable resources hunted for meat and fur. Their tracks respresent moving forward as these animals cannot move backwards.
About the Artist: David is from the Warramungu people, North-East of Tennant Creek, NT and has traditional links to the Yuggera people in Brisbane QLD. David has been playing the Digeridoo and performing traditional dances since the age of 10.
