God is Love - By Griffin
About this item
God is Love
"Horseshoes are cut and welded together to the words “God” and “Love” intertwined in a cross shape. The barnwood signifies God’s love has been around forever and lays underneath everything." -Griffin
Griffin has always loved two things: antiquing for hidden treasures and working with his hands. Welding was a perfect way to combine the two, and he began his journey by taking shop classes in high as school and practicing while he collected scrap metal from flea markets and private sellers—things like old tools, silverware, machine parts, and more. And from there he began creating.
He has made fish out of wrenches, forks, and pickaxes, frogs and tulips out of horseshoes, even a four-foot giraffe out of rebar, learning to make his welds “smooth like butter,” as he says.
Griffin is a student at AbleLight College, a two-year program in partnership with Concordia University Wisconsin that gives students with disabilities the college experience while helping them developing the life skills they’ll need after graduation.
As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and in partnership with AbleLight College's The Art of Possible! Artist’s Showcase, Griffin has donated his piece titled "God is Love" for auction, with proceeds going to the AbleLight College scholarship fund.
