About this item

STEP BACK INTO ANCIENT TIMES IN GLAMOROUS INDULGENCE AT THE GEM OF THE KAROO

Spend three nights in the splendour of the five-star Drostdy Boutique Hotel, situated in the heart of South Africa’s fourth oldest town, Graaff-Reinet. Established in 1786, this is a town with a rich history and immense character, surrounded entirely by the Camdeboo National Park.

Modern day Drostdy Hotel, originally built in 1803 as the Eastern Cape seat of the then rulers of the Dutch Cape Colony and declared national monument by the South African Heritage Foundation in the 1950s, was named South Africa’s Best Historical Restoration Project in 2015. Guests will find this understated Grande Dame, consistently voted as one of South Africa’s top ten hotels over the past half-decade, a comfortable retreat in the expansive Great Karoo.

Included in the experience available to two couples is:

Bed and breakfast; accommodation in two luxury suites; an Executive Chef tasting menu dinner paired with wines from the Cape of Good Hope series produced by Antonij Rupert Wines; ninety-minute luxurious Soul of the Karoo treatment in the sophisticated Africology Spa, voted Best Spa in Africa in 2019 and recipient of a World Luxury Spa Award; a four-ball at Graaff-Reinet Golf Club on its course recognised as one of the very best nine-hole courses in South Africa, sipping Brut Barons de Rothchild Champagne  at the Valley of Desolation with its sheer cliffs and precariously balanced columns of Dolerite, the Mountain Cathedral, rising  120 metres from the valley floor below while watching the sun goes down against the timeless backdrop of the planes of the Camdeboo and distant mountains.; a Karoo Sushi (cured venison) luncheon at  Herding Academy, the only of its kind in South Africa where rangeland restoration and the avoidance of conflict between wild animals and humans with their livestock are taught through the age old tradition of herding domesticated animals, to be followed by time in the veld with the trainees and their herding flock as well as a game drive, and a visit to Tracker Academy, first of its kind in the country, for a walk with Master Tracker Pokkie Benadie, one of South Africa’s 21 Icons, and his wards being taught the age-old indigenous knowledge and skill of tracking animals in the wild.
