#16 BRUCE BACKHOUSE PAINTING

In 2019, Bruce was chosen as the inaugural artist to christen the new purpose-built studio at Tswalu Reserve in the Kalahari. In all, he spent 4 months living and experiencing this dramatic semi-desert. The result was a body of work that depicts the various moods of the Korannaberg and the Dunes that makeup Tswalu. During the lockdown, Everard Read exhibited the work in an online show. Most paintings are large scale oils and have found homes around the world. 

This particular painting, “KAROO: DISTANT MOUNTAINS NEAR MIDDELBERG” was primarily done on location from a mountain hut on the farm Dwarsvlei near Middelberg. It was completed in the studio. The sky took 2 minutes, and the landscape 2 years.
