About this item

This item will include a signed copy of This Building Likes Me, a copy of Somewhere Other monograph and a Somewhere Other Tea Towel printed by Spacecraft Australia.

‘This Building Likes Me’ is a companion to JWA’s first book, ‘Volume’, published by Thames & Hudson. Thirty-six recent buildings and projects are comprehensively presented in pairs, through photographs, drawings and images of JWA’s distinctive models. These are complemented by a multitude of short critical essays and by intriguing accounts and images of life within the practice. The result is a compelling insight into contemporary architectural processes, preoccupations and projects.

The Somewhere Other monograph was released to coincide with the opening of John Wardle Architects’ installation at the Arsenale Exhibition for the 2018 Biennale Architettura, Venice. In a centre piece essay, John Wardle reflects on the layers of inspiration, motivation and processes that produced the pavilion, expertly pulling together ideas from geometry, Venetian glass-making to Australian modernist painting.

Far more than an exhibition catalogue, this publication is especially illuminating on the role of portals, thresholds and framed views as they apply to a number of JWA’s recent works. These motifs and others are explored in essays by Max Delany, Artistic Director of Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and Rory Hyde, Curator of Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism at the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 2018, the Somewhere Other monograph recieved a Distinction in the AGDA Awards and was a Finalist in the Best Design Awards, Designers Institute of New Zealand.

The Somewhere Other Tea Towel is a limited edition design not commercially available.

The books will come signed by John Wardle and the JWA Partners group.
