About this item

Susan Elliot Wright is the bestselling author of four novels, The Things We Never Said, The Secrets We Left Behind, What She Lost, and The Flight of Cornelia Blackwood. She is a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, and Creative Writing tutor and mentor with over 15 years' experience.

About Susan:

Susan Elliot Wright is the bestselling author of four novels, most recently the acclaimed The Flight of Cornelia Blackwood. Her powerful contemporary novels about women's lives have been published in many languages, shortlisted for prizes, and rank high in the Nielsen bestseller chart.

Before turning to fiction, she worked in journalism, writing hundreds of features for women's magazines. She has also written ten non-fiction books on health-related topics. She is currently a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Sheffield University, and is also a Creative Writing tutor and mentor. She is passionate about encouraging new writers and believes that persistence and determination are the keys to success.

Susan was born and grew up in South East London, left school at 16 and only later began to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a novelist. For most of her life she has managed to avoid a full-time 'proper job', although after leaving school she did put in five years as a civil servant, which she regards as a misspent youth! Since then, she's been a cleaner, barmaid, washer-up, market researcher, cake decorator, FE English tutor, chef, freelance journalist, features editor, non-fiction author and creative writing tutor.

Her debut novel, The Things We Never Said, started life on Sheffield Hallam University's writing MA in 2008. It was published by Simon & Schuster a few years later.

Susan now lives in Sheffield with her husband and a lab/border collie cross called Norman. She has two grown-up children and a smattering of grandchildren.
