Black Swan Placement Program - Fabrizio Biviano, Floating Land 2021

Floating Land (9 to 24 October 2021) is Australia's premiere art in the environment event, taking in sites across Noosa. This year, artist Fabrizio Biviano was commissioned to create his ambitious installation, Black Swan Theory. 24 tyre swans have been created by the artist from discarded car tyres. Biviano is looking to find new homes for each of the swans at the conclusion of Floating Land, auctioning each of the swans here with 100% of the money raised through this auction being donated to Sea Shepherd Australia.

Sea Shepherd is a not-for-profit organisation that serves to protect marine wildlife, conserve the biodiversity of the seas and enforce international conservation laws. Founded in 1977, they use conventional methods of protest in conjunction with direct intervention tactics as means of meeting these aims. You can find more out about Sea Shepherd by visiting - https://www.seashepherd.org.au/

From the project page on the Floating Land website:

The black swan theory is a metaphor for an event that both comes as a surprise and has a substantial effect, yet is wrongly and inappropriately rationalised after the fact. It might be argued that our inaction on climate change and the human impact on the environments we rely on to survive could be captured by this idea. Embracing a dark sense of irony, car tyres also account for the second largest source of micro-plastics polluting the world’s oceans.
