About this item

Aleksandra Karpowicz is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist based in London.

Her entire work is exploring human nature. Identity has been one of the major subjects of Karpowicz’s work. She has been exploring the potential to formulate a New Human Identity as a response to the dissolution of the foundational myths and institutions upon which our culture is predicated. Karpowicz’s response is framed by the realisation that identities structured around ideologies, belief systems and difference not only fail to serve us as individuals but bring greater division and polarisation amongst communities. Positing a place beyond the heavy layers of indoctrinated identity, her projects are often a violent expulsion of the past to reconfigure a self through lived experience and joint aspiration as humanity.

Karpowicz is best known for her ground-breaking project ‘Let’s Talk About Sex’ which has won two Awards at the National Open Art Competition UK. During 3 years she interviewed and photographed a great diversity of 300 people representing different ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, backgrounds and religions.

Her three-channel film ‘˜Body as Home’ has been selected as a flagship project of the Giudecca Art District, a new district in Venice dedicated to contemporary art launched during 58th Venice Biennale.

Karpowicz holds MA in political science and Diploma in photography.

She has been shortlisted for the Women of the Future Award in the arts & culture category.
